Crysis 2 is a first-person shooting game centering around the use of a futuristic suit that gives the player multiple powers. These powers must be utilized in various ways to complete the game. Players can sneak through areas with stealth; they can also elect to engage in direct combat, but this makes the game more difficult.

Crysis 2 is very different from the first Crysis game. This new version takes place in New York City after an alien attack. The player starts with a futuristic suit equipped with powers that are not complex; they tend to be more useful in areas with large clusters of enemies. The player can become invisible and sneak past groups of enemies unscathed. Players can also activate a power mode that increases the suit's speed and strength. The powers last only a limited amount of time; although they don't take long to recharge, the player must activate them strategically to succeed.

The enemies in this game are mostly strange aliens. The developers went out of their way to create a set of menacing enemies that require real skill to defeat.

There are only eight usable guns in Crysis 2, but each of them has a specific purpose. For example, the Gauss Rifle is a powerful ranged weapon that can take out alien infantry with ease.

Crysis 2 is a linear game. The game's environments have a lot of branching paths that invite the player to strategically plan the next move. Players can use the stealth ability to move quickly through hidden passages. This game also has a large number of open environment areas. These require the player to plan attacks and utilize cover. The game has gorgeous graphics, and the audio and voice aspects are great as well.

This game has a few problems that keep it from perfection. The suit powers are interesting, but they can become boring after a while. It would have been preferable to allow the player to unlock more powers throughout the course of the game. The game also has a large number of glitches. While the enemy artificial intelligence is decent, they often get stuck in places where they shouldn't, like small buildings.

Crysis 2's single-player mode takes around twelve hours to complete. The player can complete it significantly faster by sneaking past most of the enemies.
